Please make sure your child is well-rested, hydrated and has eaten breakfast before their lesson.
Lessons leave at 09:30 so feel free to come by NBS from 09:15 to check your child in and meet your instructor.
‘See but not been seen’. You are more than welcome to watch your child, but we request you do this from a distance – it is much easier for your child to connect with their instructor and the rest of their group if they can’t see you.
Pick up is at 15:30 back at NBS.
Lift Passes
- We don’t provide lift passes so please make sure your child has theirs in their pocket prior to the lesson.
- Usually an empty, zipped-up pocket on their left hand side is best.
- There is a kiosk just up the hill from NBS (beside the bottom of the Family Chairlift) where you can purchase lift passes if necessary.
What to wear
- We recommend children wear helmets when attending Kids Club.
- Waterproof and insulated gloves or mittens (we prefer mittens are they are much easier to get on and off) are a must. Especially for enjoying playing in the snow!
- Proper waterproof jackets and pants (preferably ones that go over your child’s ski boot) are also essential for changing mountain conditions.
- Knee high ski socks – wearing just one pair is usually fine (wearing two can be uncomfortable and not necessarily warmer).
- Thermal tops and bottoms. If the bottoms are long it is great to roll them up to just above their ski/snowboard boot to prevent any discomfort.
- A fleece or warm jumper for under the ski jacket.
- Goggles are essential for Niseko’s snowy conditions (and much safer than sunglasses generally). We recommend investing in a good low-light lens for your child to be able to see properly on snowy days. These are available for purchase in the NBS shop if you need.
- A neck-warmer or face mask is essential too, especially when it is snowing. Your child can always take it off and put it in their pocket if they get too warm.
- Make sure everything dries overnight – especially gloves as these can get very soggy from snow play!
- We generally don’t recommend backpacks as there is a high risk of these getting caught in ski lifts. If your child needs to bring any bigger things with them (epi-pens, asthma inhalers, medication etc), speak to your instructor and they can look after it.
- Handwarmers are also great on super cold days.
Snacks
Some pocket snacks and/or money for a hot chocolate is always a great thing to give to your child. We also provide hot chocolate back at NBS for kids hanging out on the Family chairlift/run, and will stop for water breaks as necessary.
Lunch
- Lunch is from 12:30 to 13:30, and is fully supervised by our instructors and Kids Club team.
- We take an NBS shuttle to Lava Lounge from our base at the bottom of family chair.
- We can cater for most dietary requirements but please discuss this with us beforehand so we can let Lava Lounge know.
Group Lessons
Kids Club is a fun, social, and friendly way for your child to enjoy the wonderful world of skiing and snowboarding in Niseko, allowing them to make new friends and participate in our excellent progression system.
However, please keep in mind that the nature of group lessons means catering for a variety of personalities, goals/expectations (from both children and parents), energy levels, and abilities.
We do our best to match children by ability and age, but there will always be some variation in both skill level and age within each group.
There will also always be variation in group sizes depending on the skill level and age of the skiers/snowboarders we have at Kids Club that day. We do our best to keep group sizes small, aiming for around 4 to a group for 5-7 year olds and 6 to a group for 8-14 year olds as a guideline, but some groups end up being smaller than this and some bigger.
Please get in touch if you have any questions about your child taking part in a group lesson, or if you would like some advice on whether it will be a good option for them. If you think there will be any issues with any of the above, we suggest you consider a booking a private lesson for your child instead – this provides a more customisable learning environment which can be paced appropriately for your child.
Please let us know if your child has any additional learning needs – it is much easier for us to accommodate them and we can also advise on whether a private lesson may suit them better.
